Knee injuries

Updated: May 8, 2024

The knee joint is a complex hinge joint that connects the thigh bone (femur) to the shin bone (tibia) and plays a crucial role in supporting weight and facilitating movement

Knee pain is likely the most common injury among runners and individuals who are overweight.

The reason is quite clear: our knees bear the weight of our bodies, and when the load is unbalanced or when the muscles and ligaments are not strong enough to support it, tissue damage can occur. This damage can affect the ligaments, tendons, and meniscus.

Miraculously, when our immune system detects tissue damage, it immediately attempts to repair it through a process called inflammation. Inflammation is also a source of pain and signals us to slow down, listen to our bodies, and reduce the load.

When a patient comes to the clinic with knee pain and hasn't undergone imaging to diagnose the source of the pain, several physiological tests are conducted to determine whether the pain originates from the ligaments, the meniscus, or if the connective tissue is pulling the knee in a direction that throws it off balance.

In this case, I first identify the source of the pain and then use manual techniques to relieve the load on the knee, facilitating a smoother passage of the inflammatory process.
